How to sell on Vinted Tips
I am sure you often wonder, is it easy to sell on Vinted and I am sure you have lots of questions like what can you sell on Vinted? How to sell clothes on Vinted? What are the Vinted fees for sellers?
Here I have tried to answer all of those questions for you in 10 Top Tips for selling on Vinted, however there will be a FAQ at the bottom of this post for anything that didn’t make it into it’s own section.
Think of this as your ultimate guide to selling on Vinted. Or maybe even your how to sell on Vinted for beginners.
1. Let’s get Picture PERFECT!
The first of my tips for selling on Vinted is about the pictures! There is a reason this tip is at the very top of the list. The single most important thing for selling on Vinted is having good photos of your listing – it’s that simple.
I genuinely believe one of the key deciding factors on how easy is it to sell on Vinted is down to the quality of your post, and the photo is the bulk of that. What is even more bizarre is that it’s the main thing a lot of people look past and worry more about things like the best time to sell on Vinted (more on that later) – meaning that you have every opportunity to make your item stand out from the rest and make that sale.
The difference between selling or not selling on Vinted will more often than not be down to the quality of the listings photo’s (and of course reading all my tips for selling on Vinted and putting them into practice).
Vinted is an extremely competitive market place with often 100s if not 1000s of results for similar items so you really do have to make sure that your listing stands out from the rest – or in the very least that it can be seen properly! It’s just how selling on Vinted works.
No-one will look at your item if the photos are blurry or bad. They will just keep scrolling.
There are so many listings on Vinted that people simply do not have the time to be trying to work out exactly what it is you have posted in poor lighting and from what angle.
You have to make sure your photos stand out for all the right reasons.
And you have to make sure that the first photo is the best photo of the item showing the full item – not the tag or a box or a care label. This will not draw people in to look at your listing.
By no means do you have to be a professional photographer but taking clear well lit photos is a must.
Make sure your camera lens is clean (give it a quick wipe to be sure) so that the photos are crystal clear.
Make sure you upload more than one photo – people want to see as much as possible of what they intend to buy.
You are able to upload up to 20 photos per listing. Yes 20. Make sure that you use as many of those as possible.
You are unlikely to sell an item with 1 out of focus poorly lit photo.
Vinted has guidelines for photos. Stick to them or you could find yourself banned. Include care labels and tags to show wash care instructions and the size.
You cannot give people too much information. The more information they have the more likely they are to buy from you.
Make sure that your items are clean and if it is clothing make sure they are crease free (ironed) and look as appealing as possible – you are selling an item at the end of the day.
No-one is going to be buying a screwed up crumpled item that looks like it’s just been taken from the back of the wardrobe where it has been stuffed for the past 2 years.
Sometimes items that are hung up don’t photography as well so try laying them down on a flat surface if needed.
Make sure your item is the main focus of the photo.
Take the photo using a plain or neutral background using natural light so that the item is shown in its true light. If the item is light in colour try using a darker background to make it pop.
2. Listing Description
Second place in tips for selling on Vinted comes the description. Now that we have the perfect picture it’s time to describe your listing in detail – and to describe it honestly. Again, this is where a lot of people miss a trick.
Look, I get it. It can be time consuming writing out a detailed description of the item you are selling – but this could again be the difference between selling and not selling on Vinted.
Writing something like ‘Good condition’ or ‘Worn once’ simply is not enough to make a sale. People are going to need more than that to make them want to buy from you.
You really do have to make sure that your listing and the listing title has as much information in it as possible.
Using keywords significantly boosts your items discoverabilty and makes the listing more searchable and reaching many more prospective buyers.
If the item is from a specific range and something like ‘tall’, ‘petite’, ‘maternity’, ‘loose fit’, ‘skinny fit’, ‘wide fit’ etc then make sure you include these details.
When you list an item you have the option to list your item as; ‘New with tags’, ‘New without tags’, ‘Very good’, ‘Good’ or ‘Satisfactory’. Make sure you are honest with this. Like really honest.
If the item has been worn then it is not ‘New without tags.’ So, do not list it as so. This is something that appears frequently and prospective buyers find it so frustrating.
It will immediately put the buyer off from buying the item from you and can also deter them from looking at any other items you may be selling as including an inaccurate description on the listing is misleading.
Make sure that you are completely HONEST with the condition of all your listings. Don’t say the item is new if it isn’t and has been worn.
This could easily lead to you getting poor reviews and having to deal with items being sent back to you or refunding buyers – and even being banned from using Vinted.
Make sure that you include any flaws and marks in the description of the listing and show them in the photos so the buyer is fully aware of any imperfections.
Did you know that you can use hashtags on Vinted to make your listing even more searchable? I have read this when reading up on tips for selling on Vinted.
You can also use hashtags on your listing much like you can on social media sites like instagram.
Include hashtags at the end of your description and also make them relatable for the time of year. For example use hashtags like #festival in the summer season for clothes suitable for a festival and things like #christmasparty or #littleblackdress if you are posting items closer to Christmas that are suitable for the festive season.
3. Listing Price
A bit of a boring one of my tips for selling on Vinted but one you must get right. You want your listing to sell don’t you? Of course you do otherwise you wouldn’t be listing it in the first place.
With this in mind you need to be realistic in your listing price. After a badly lit photo and vague listing description the next biggest reason that listings do not sell on Vinted is a listing that has been overpriced.
Your listing may have sentimental value or you may have paid a lot for it and it may well have never been worn but theses things could cloud your judgement on what price you put on your listing.
You need to remember that you are listing something that will be considered second hand to a potential buyer.
Even if the item is ‘new with tags’ it has been purchased from a preloved/worn website. The buyer is not ordering from a retailer with the option to return the item – so they consider this when it comes to the price.
As a bit of research it is always good to see what others are listing similar items at to get an idea of the market and what is being sold.
Don’t just limit this to checking on Vinted. Check on other sites such as eBay and DePop too. This kind of market research could really help you with your listing price and improve your chances of selling on Vinted.
There are many factors to consider when it comes to your listing price. If the product is still available to buy in stores then look if anyone has it on sale. You don’t want to be pricing something higher than a store as the buyer will just go there.
Other things to consider are if the item is brand new, rare, damaged, limited edition – all of these things will have an effect on the price at either end of the scale.
Buyers will be put off by an overpriced item and they will try and find it cheaper elsewhere.
Another thing to consider when pricing is that the buyer has to pay something called buyer protection – which is an additional fee paid by the buyer to protect the item and the buyer also covers the cost of postage.
So, that item that was £5.00 will now be apprximtely £6.00 with protection and then approximately another £3.00 for postage – that £5.00 bargain is now almost £10.00.
Something that could already be slightly overpriced just got a whole lot more expensive when you add the additional Vinted selling fees on.
4. Vinted Fees for Sellers
Tips for selling on Vinted couldn’t fail to include the fees. It’s important to know as much as you can about how to use Vinted as a seller and how much to sell on Vinted. How much does it cost to sell on Vinted has a super simple answer because as a seller on Vinted there are no hidden selling fees for you – which I think is just brilliant!
As previously stated, the buyer pays the Buyer Protection and they also pays the postage – which they select from the options that you make available.
For example if something is listed at £5.00 and sold at that price then you as the seller will receive £5.00 for the listing once the sale is completed. So that kind of answers the question of how much is it to sell on Vinted, you don’t need to worry about fees as a seller.
The Buyer Protection that is added to the item and the selected postage option is all paid for by the buyer.
5. How to sell Bundles on Vinted
Lots of people want tips for selling on vinted that relate to bundles, so your girl’s got you covered. Another way to increase maximum sales on Vinted is by selecting the option for people to buy bundles from you. Hopefully this tip will help you with how to tell a bundle on Vinted.
This is where a buyer can select multiple items from your closet listings and get a discount on purchasing multiple items.
It’s a way of encouraging people to buy more from your wardrobe. You get to personally edit and choose the amount of discounts per additional item that the customer buys.
This is one of my favourite tips for selling on Vinted and a brilliant way of selling multiple items at once.
Buyers like this option as it also means paying for postage just once as well as getting a discount on multiple items. It really is a win win and I have sold many bundles and I am sure it means people buy things they might have passed on, because they make a saving.
Something else to consider when listing your items is to list similar items in order next to one another so they appear near each other in your wardrobe listings.
It makes sense to put your clothes and accessories that are of a similar style near to each other.
For example list your active wear at the same time so it is grouped together and easy to find and then the same with other things that could sell well together. That’s how to sell bundles on Vinted.
6. Responding to and interacting with buyers.
Communication is key when we think about tips for selling on Vinted. If you receive a message from a buyer enquiring about your item then respond to them at your earliest convenience.
If they are asking for details or measurements of an item then make sure you have them to hand or a tape measure close by so you can send them over promptly.
These things could be the difference between them buying the item from you or going to someone else for the item.
Building that relationship and answering queries installs trust from the buyer in you and that could lead to the sale of your listing.
7. When is the best time to list an item on Vinted?
For number 7 of our tips for selling on Vinted I will cover the best time of day and also the best time of year to be posting your items on vinted.
The best time of day to add your listing is when the app is at its busiest with prospective buyers so your item comes in at the top of their search.
Listing your items between 7pm and 9pm on weekdays and on weekends especially Saturday mornings tend to be the best times for items being seen and often selling quicker.
There is a debate around selling things ‘in season’ and whether this is the best time to be selling. You can find many people who write tips for selling on Vinted have differing opinions on this.
What I mean by ‘in season’ is selling clothes on Vinted when they are actually needed; summer holiday clothes at the start of summer and winter coats in winter etc.
It has been proven that these items do result in a quicker sale as they are more in demand and there is often less haggling involved.
Remember, if you are going on holiday or away yourself then to put the ‘holiday mode’ function on.
This will hide your items meaning they can’t be sold whilst you are away meaning that you don’t miss posting deadlines – which can have an effect on your Vinted rating.
8. Posting, Packaging & Proof of Posting.
So, you’ve made a sale. AMAZING!! Now you can tell me your tips for selling on Vinted! Ha ha – In all seriousness it’s now time to send the item you have sold to the buyer.
Let’s keep this very simple. Post your item PROMPTLY.
I recommend in these tips for selling on Vinted you do not leave the item sitting around for days/weeks.
Yes, you have 7 days to post the item. But don’t leave the item sitting around until the last possible moment.
When someone has purchased from you there is every chance there is a buzz or some excitement around it – keep that excitement there and post it straight away.
Often people will be buying something for an occasion too and it may be time sensitive so make sure it is sent out to avoid any disappointment from the buyer. We don’t want any bad reviews around here.
Make sure you package the item up securely and so that it is
Specify in your account and on the item listing whether a certain delivery service is better for you for quicker delivery.
You have the option to take off certain traders. One of the things that puts people off from selling is not having a printer, I’m often asked how to sell on Vinted without a printer. This is where your postage selections come into play. For example if you don’t have a printer then remove couriers that require you to print a label for delivery.
One of my biggest tips for selling on Vinted is that you can do it all without having a printer or needing to print labels, for me this makes it one of the easier ways to sell.
This will speed up the process of you sending out the item so the buyer doesn’t have to wait even longer for the item they have purchased.
If you are printing out a label at home – this is usually for InPost home delivery or Royal Mail then remember to not cover the barcodes with any form of sellotape as it will prevent the item from being able to be scanned/processed and could result in the item taking longer to to reach the buyer and possibly go missing.
9. Reviews
Getting a good review will help you massively on Vinted and is one of my big tips for selling on Vinted. As you have a rating out of 5 and people do pay attention to it when deciding if they want to buy form you – and people do read your reviews.
If the buyer does not give you a review within 48 hours then you get an automated 5 star review – which is great.
But, what you really should be aiming for is people wanting to go and give you a review as these personable great reviews installs faith in you from future buyers and making them feel secure in buying from you.
Even as the seller always leave a review for the buyer – even if it a few words and a great score. This helps people return if they have had a pleasant experience with you and it also reminds any buyers who have not reviewed you to go and do so.
One of my tips for selling on Vinted is to always remember to do your reviews for buyer quickly, it will remind the buyer to review you too and while they can remember receiving the item.
10. Making Offers
My final offering in these tips for selling on Vinted is all about offers. Or in other words ‘haggling.’ The ‘make an offer’ function is actually something that’s not really spoken about or mentioned to you when you first start selling on Vinted.
So, I’m mentioning it now. Some buyers will try and negotiate. A buyer has the option to ‘make an offer’ on your listing and sometimes they will be incredibly cheeky with that offer – to the point of it feeling insulting to you when they are make you a ridiculously low offer for your items.
You can ask for a maximum of a 40% discount on an item listed on Vinted. But this doesn’t stop people sliding into the DMs to offer you even less – yes, this happens. They ask you to manually lower the price even further of the item so they are then able to offer even less.
First things first, do not take this personally. They are just trying their luck and will try this tactic with everyone in trying to get items as cheap as they possibly can.
As I stated before, people genuinely LOVE a bargain. And even more so than that, they love a bargain even more when they believe that they got the bargain themselves and that they’ve got themselves an absolute steal.
It’s a dopamine hit and a pure sense of achievement and I know I stated previously that you have to be realistic in your pricing and I genuinely mean that, so this is another factor you need to consider in keeping the price fair but also consider you may end up selling it for less than the listing price.
Vinted is fast becoming a place where people will send an offer on absolutely everything – just for the sake of it and I wouldn’t be offering my best tips for selling on Vinted if |I wasn’t upfront about this.
You should always have a price you would be happy to accept for your listing as this could be different from the price you have it listed for.
Some sellers list items for £1 or £2 higher than they would be happy to take for it.
They don’t do this to try and make additional money on the listing – they do it so they get the lowest price they would be willing to accept for the listing.
I can guarantee you that 8-9 times out of 10 you will receive an offer for your listing from an interested buyer as they want to feel that they are getting a better price.
Some people do pay the full listing price which is just amazing, but this is happening less and less often.
Even if someone offers you £1 less than the listing price they are offering it to feel a sense of achievement in the sale.
All about the money, money, money
Since we have got through all 10 of the tips for selling on Vinted, this one doesn’t have a number, but it’s still important. This isn’t actually a sell tip but the entire point in selling on Vinted is so that you can make some money. Can you make money on Vinted – absolutely, and this is how you get it.
So I thought I would add this on as an additional information so you know how to get your money out of the app.
Some people decide to leave any money they make from selling items on Vinted in their vinted balance and use it towards item they wish to purchase at a later date.
But a lot of other people want to cash that money out.
Here’s how: you must make sure that your vinted account is connected to your bank account by adding in the details where prompted.
One this is done then all you need to do is go to tour balance and select withdraw to bank account and follow the steps.
Vinted always advises you that this can take up to 5 working days, but it can often appear in your bank account before this.
